The BOXING BOUT PART 2
The second regular session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of the province for the month of March was called to order by the Presiding Officer at 11:45 o’clock in the morning last Friday. Only one regular member from the second congressional district of the provincial lawmaking body failed to respond the roll call conducted by the board secretary.

A good news to all retiring officials and employees of the Provincial Government of Bohol!!!

Effective upon the approval of an ordinance before the Sangguniang Palalawigan, retiring officials and employees of the province are entitled to receive an amount of P50,000.00 under the SALAMAT/PAALAM program. The same program was originally programmed for only P25,000 per retiree. But persistent requests from provincial legislators prompted the provincial Local Finance Committee to reconsider its P25,000 original amount to P50,000.

Other than the financial consideration to be received by the retiree, he is also privileged to receive a Plaque of Recognition during a ceremony held for the purpose.

A letter from concerned citizens of our province reached the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and aired their concern about the issue on over-speeding and racing of buses plying the highways.

The concern, thru the letter, is a welcome affirmation of the actualities obtaining in our highways. The Land Transportation Office, maybe, is too small an office to know fully well traffic violations in the field. Or, they may not care at all. But, it is a fact that traffic accidents do not only happen in heavy traffic areas like Manila, Quezon City, Cebu City and Davao City.

Traffic accidents can also happen even in small cities. Definitely, towns and barangays are not exempted. They, too, are prone to such an eventuality.

The concern raised by Short Cuts in last Sunday’s issue on the Pinoy Pride X11 – Bakbakan sa Bohol calling for an SP investigation on the alleged substitution of a boxer in the main event got the support from Board Member Yul Lopez of the first district of Bohol.

In a strongly worded privilege speech, he “strongly condemn this deplorable act”. And, “the Boholano community was evidently cheated and conned by the organizers and promoter of ‘Bakbakan sa Bohol’, he further maintained.

On that score, twin resolutions were passed in the provincial lawmaking body by way of an en masse motion requesting for an investigation to be conducted by the said lawmaking body by the Committee as a whole. This type of referral was purposely done in order that every member of the Provincial Board is afforded such a privilege to ask questions and hear how legitimate the ‘excuses’ are.

The second resolution was directed to the Games and Amusement Board. (The GAB is the sovereign body tasked to supervise and regulate professional boxing bouts in the country.) The said resolution requested the GAB “to look seriously into the ‘Bakbakan sa Bohol’ boxing promotion as there were clearly gross violations of the rules that merit penalties and sanctions”.

There is only one logical reason for the twin moves of the Provincial Board in conducting for an investigation. Bohol must not be made “victims and easy prey to unscrupulous adventurists”.
