The haze that clouds the alleged existence of a “coalition” between Lakas-Kampi and LDP in the national hierarchy is slowly dissipating. The so-called Lakas-Kampi and LDP “coalition” was the justification offered by Cong. Edgar Chatto to the entry of Rene Relampagos of LDP and the “ouster” of Bert Salinas of Lakas from the 1st district congressional race.
Gov. Erico Aumentado claims there is no such coalition. Senator Angara and DILG Secretary Puno reportedly told him the only coalition between Lakas and LDP was the coalition in 1995. But Relampagos countered that he was given blanket authority to coalesce with Lakas. He also said the Lakas-Kampi issued a CONA in his favor. Ergo, there is a coalition and the gov is lying through his teeth.
So this is the “coalition” invoked by Cong. Chatto. It’s rather a special kind of coalition. A coalition minus a formal agreement that bears the signature of Lakas-Kampi and LDP officials. A coalition that is devoid of an official or formal sanction from both parties. A coalition that is so secret that even a Lakas-Kampi regional and provincial chairman like Aumentado does not know about. Given its very secret nature, no wonder things got awry in Lakas.
How Lakas-Kampi or LDP run their affairs is no business to us. What matters is the demeanor of candidates who are now courting the approval of the electorates. After all, the electorates deserve a moral accounting. The electorates do not deserve being taken for a ride to wonderland. Just like other Boholanos, we would appreciate it very much if the local candidates would, for once, exhibit an inclination to honesty!
