Glovasa priority is clear: senior citizens’ interest
Councilor Oscar Glovasa yesterday said he believes his priorities are in order: to advance the interest of the senior citizens.
“I don’t know about what other candidates want to do if they get elected to Congress. As for myself, I know this is about advancing the interest of the senior citizens at least in my district,” he declared.
On top of the reform agenda he has are the flagship services now being enjoyed by senior citizens in Tagbilaran City.
Glovasa does not hide the fact that he is one candidate who merely responded to a draft. His peers at the city council were the ones who endorsed his candidacy so the implementation of the programs for the senior citizens can be duplicated in the 14 towns of the first district.
“It is not because I don’t want to serve as a congressman. It is the realization that I cannot do this alone so when they said they will back me up, I had to make a decision,” he added.
If elected, Glovasa said he would use his pork barrel allocations for benefit programs particularly for the senior citizens.
On top of the priority is the strengthening of hospital services and its availability to the senior citizens.
“There is no doubt that hospital services and medicines are the biggest concerns of senior citizens,” he pointed out.
At present, senior citizens in Tagbilaran enjoy free hospital services through the Blue Card.
They also enjoy free medicines including maintenance medicines through the Libreng Tambal sa Katawhan project.
Glovasa said that while other candidates can only make promises of services like these, he has the advantages of merely making a report card.
“People know that this can be done because we are already doing this under Mayor Dan Lim in Tagbilaran,” he pointed out.
Under the same program in the city, senior citizens enjoy free movies which allow them the privilege to be entertained without paying for it.
The most appreciated part of the project is the birthday greeting which comes in the form of a cake, a card and cash gift.
“Every birthday is special to a senior citizen because you can never tell if it is your last one,” Glovasa stressed.
He said it is unfortunate that critics deride this as nothing but a cheap publicity stunt.
“Nobody is saying that the cake is expensive, but we assure people that it comes from the heart,” he added.
Without naming names, Glovasa said other people have been in power for a long time but were not able to do what Tagbilaran under Lim is doing for senior citizens.
