Bohol to host tourism summit

THE PROVINCE will host on June 1 to 2 a Provincial Tourism Summit to boost Bohol’s tourism potentials. The Provincial Tourism Council headed by Atty. Lucas Nunag is spearheading the activity.

The Summit is expected to spell out tourism activities and services adhering to one-town-one-product concept apparently to avoid duplication offered by several local government units. It also tries to develop and further enhance new services and other form of come-ons.

Included in the preparations are the formation of a core group composed of the Bohol Tourism Office led by tourism officer Jo Cabarrus, Department of Trade and Industry, GIZ, Ms. Liza M. Quirog, head of SEEM cluster office of the Governor and PTC chairman on March 7, 2011 and launching of pre-summit consultations and orientation workshops for stakeholders slated on March 18, 2011.

Stakeholders are divided into groups, to wit: hotel/SPA/lodging/restaurants; transport — tricycle, sea land and air; and travel operators and tour guides.

Other stakeholders — food suppliers and non-food suppliers, health and wellness, sports operators, eco-cultural component and academe and other training institutions —- also are expected to get involved in the summit.

The core group composed of Atty. Nunag, Board member and tourism chair Godofreda Tirol, Mr. Walter Sultan, Ms. Cabarrus, Ms. Noneth M. Bolo, Mr. Liot Responte, Ms. Pamela Gallardo and Ms. Fe. Dominise with guests, namely: Mr. Uwen Sturmann and Ms. Miriam Bacalso of GIZ, Ms. Pas Espiritu, Ms Liza Quirog, Ms. Liza Flores, Ms. Lucille Autentico of DTI and Ms. Myttee Palo of BANGON convened last Feb 14, 2011 at the Capitol.
