Evasco slams move to transfer DILG officer

Maribojoc Mayor Leoncio Evasco this week slammed the move to transfer the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) officer assigned in the town.

“It is sad that career civil service officials are being used to serve partisan political interest,” he said.

Evasco said he received reports that municipal local government operations officer Victor Lapiz was going to be transferred to Corella town due to the pressures exerted by politicians.

He identified these officials as Speaker Prospero Nograles, Rep. Edgar Chatto and Board Member Jose Veloso.

Veloso is running for mayor in Maribojoc reportedly on the instigation of Chatto and ex-Gov. Rene Relampagos.

Nograles came into the picture when Chatto sought his help to neutralize Evasco who is a known political strategist of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, the speaker’s arch-enemy.

Duterte’s daughter, Vice Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, is running for mayor against Nograles in Davao City .

Evasco said that Lapiz received a phone call from the DILG regional office about his transfer to Corella.

The mayor said the reason given for the transfer was Lapiz’ no-nonsense campaign against vote-buying in the town.

“Since when has no vote-buying been a violation?” Evasco asked.

The mayor said it is a pity that Lapiz has become a sacrificial pawn in the gubernatorial ambition of Chatto.

Evasco noted that the town of Maribojoc received many congratulatory messages and expressions of support when the town did what many considered improbable: no vote-buying during the barangay elections in 2007.

The mayor made it clear that Lapiz was not engaged in partisan political activities and in fact stayed away from his sorties.

“This did not matter to those who thought they can do anything to further their political interest,” he added.

Evasco said this latest incident only served to prove the real Chatto, in reference to the solon’s role in the controversy of the certificate of nomination and acceptance (CONA) of Gov. Erico Aumentado.

“It is the same pattern of deception, treachery and shameless use of government resources and agencies for personal gain,” the mayor added.

  1. Hi! I am not sure if the mayor can still remember me. I used to be his student back then in Baang. He has this way of making any discussion very engaging, and what I am now is partly because of how he was as my mentor. I always knew he’d make good in whatever endeavor he embarks into. No-nonsense, means business, incorruptible – characteristics that (sadly) can rarely be found in most politicians. That’s what makes him stand out. That’s what makes him outshine.

It’s good to hear that there still exists a shepherd who dares to tread unfamiliar grounds for what is just before God and man.

Long live Mayor! May your tribe multiply.
