Dengue cases in Tagbi decrease

The number of reported dengue cases in Tagbilaran City appears
to be decreasing but health officials said there is a need to remain
vigilant.
Available figures showed that from a high of 85 reported cases, there
were only 47 cases reported in August.
The figures for July were the highest this year while the month with
the lowest incidence was April with 15.
Figures for the this year include January with 36 cases, February, 38;
March, 22; May, 23; and June, 35.
During the eight month period, Cogon had the most number of cases
with nine followed by Dao with eight and by Taloto with seven.
Poblacion had five while Booy, Ubujan, Bool and San Isidro all had
three.
There were only one case each reported in barangays Poblacion 1,
Poblacion 3, Tiptip, Manga and Dampas.
According to the available figures, the oldest affected person was 63
years old while the youngest was only 10 months old.
There has been a notable increase in the number of dengue cases
reported in Tagbilaran this year compared to last year.
The figures for 2009 showed that there were only a total of 126
reported cases with two deaths.
From January to Aug. 20, Tagbilaran already has 301 reported cases
with three verified deaths.
Two of the fatalities died in the month of July namely Shamea
Amasco, 2 years old, from Ma. Clara St., Poblacion 2 and Bella Marie
Torres, 4, from Calceta St., Cogon.
The third victim identified as Ma. Niña Monserate, 9, of Basak, Taloto
district, died just this August.
In 2009, Tagbilaran came in sixth in the number of reported dengue
cases in Region 7. Topping the list was Cebu City, followed by the
cities of Lapulapu, Dumaguete, Minglanilla and Mandaue.
Rounding out the top 10 were Talisay in Negros Oriental, Naga in
Cebu, Tanjay also in Negros Oriental and Danao also of Cebu.
