UNLIKE their counterpart in Manila, the local Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit in the province scored victory in the fight against criminality when they nabbed 6 suspects believed to be responsible of the robbery incidents in Danao town and other places here.
The suspects were identified as Carlito Agot, 31, a native of Sinacaban, Misamis Occidental; Victoriano Castrojo, 36, of Banban Loon town; Ruben Lange, 25, a resident of barangay Casabas, Pilar town; and Eboy Montecino, 20 and Willy Guio, 19, both residents of barangay Estaca, Pilar town.
They are charged with robbery, carnapping and illegal possession of firearms before the Provincial Prosecutor’s by the Bohol Provincial Police Office through PO4 Pelagio Rosagaran, the police report said.
The suspects were arrested by the SWAT team in a “safe house” in barangay Catagbacan, Loon town through a tip from an unnamed informant.
The police operatives recovered firearms, including a Carbine with live ammunitions and sachets of drugs believed to be shabu.
Gov. Edgar Chatto has commended the accomplishment of the PNP provincial leadership in arresting the suspects during the weekly radio program “Kita ug ang Gobernador” held Friday at the Governor’s mansion and expressed full support to the local SWAT team.
He said the local SWAT unit has brought honor, not shame, to the Boholanos with their successful apprehension of the robbery suspects.
When asked about possible assistance to the SWAT following information about its lack of service vehicle, Chatto said he would first seek an inventory of the SWAT. He said during his time as 1st district representative of Bohol, he has donated no less than P500,000d to the SWAT.
He also said he has knowledge that the other sectors of society like the local bankers group have extended help to the SWAT.
“I want an inventory so that the province will know what are sorely needed by the unit,” Chatto said.
Meanwhile, PNP provicial director SSupt Rodulfo Llorca said the local SWAT will now be called Police Intervention Tactical Unit (PITU). The move came following the bungled handling of the Manila SWAT of the hostage-taking incident in Quirino Grandstand last week that killed 8 Chinese tourists.
He also expressed confidence in the ability of the members of the PITU to respond to emergency situations.
In a related development, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan last Friday passed a resolution urging law enforcers and policemen to institute measures to ensure the safety of life and limbs of both the Boholanos and the visitors.
The move came following the murder of barangay captain Crescencio Caitom of barangay Canlusong , Valencia town. Caitom was the former driver of Vice-Governor Concepcion O. Lim.
The Valencia police are still conducting a probe on the incident..
