901 graduating students pack BEPO pre-employment seminar

Nine hundred and one graduating students from all over the province
jampacked the Bohol Cultural Center last Thursday to attend the Pre-
Employment Orientation Seminar held by the Bohol Employment and
Placement Office (BEPO), an attached agency of the Office of the
Governor.
BEPO Chief Romulo Tagaan reported on the successful conduct of the
seminar, which was held in coordination with the Department of Labor and
Employment (DOLE).
Speaking in behalf of Governor Edgar Chatto, who attended the meeting
for the reconstitution of the Regional Development Council that same day,
Provincial Administrator Ae Damalerio declared the provincial government’s
continuing support for the labor and employment sector of Bohol.
He stressed that it is a duty of government not only to provide public
employment but also to coordinate with private employers and monitor
employment practices to best serve the interests of the people. He added
that the administration of Governor Chatto and Vice Governor Concepcion
Lim is committed to the generation of decent jobs for Boholanos.
He reminded the participants that, as students, it is their duty to excel in
their studies and collegiate involvement since these are the bases for their
evaluation when they apply for work.
The schools participating in the orientation were AMA Computer College,
the Bilar and Tagbilaran campuses of the Bohol Island State University
(BISU), Holy Name University, Informatics Computer Institute, Mater Dei
College of Tubigon, PMI Colleges-Bohol, STI Computer College, and
University of Bohol.
The most number of students in attendance came from UB, with 303
graduating students attending. They were followed by PMI Colleges-Bohol
with 187, BISU-Bilar – 176, Mater Dei College- 163, STI Computer College
– 25, AMA Computer College – 17, Informatics Computer Institute – 14,
BISU-Tagbilaran – 10, and Holy Name University – 6.
The seminar oriented the students on modern techniques in job application
and the use of modern technologies in job-seeking, legal aspects and
prospects in local employment, legal aspects and prospects in overseas
employment, and human trafficking and anti-illegal recruitment.
Prior to the seminar, the students were given registration forms with
DOLE’s National Labor Registry. The forms would serve to profile the
